DESCRIPTION:The Mountain Folk Festival 2019 is a weekend of folk dancing and music for middle and high school youth dance groups to get together. Everyone gathers and shares different dance routines and songs. It is a great chance to learn from your peers and learn some new dances to perform! Groups prepare in advance by learning the festival dances on their own\, then we fine-tune and practice the dances together. It’s a great opportunity to meet other young folks who love traditional music and dance\, supported by skilled dance leaders and fabulous musicians. In the evenings\, the larger community is invited to dance with them and enjoy their performances!

DESCRIPTION:The Country Dancers will be performing! \n \nListen to the choir sing as you watch the sunrise over Berea. \nThe sunrise with friends. \nHike the Pinnacles with the Country Dancers and watch as they dance the sun up! Mountain Day is a wonderful opportunity to welcome fall and bond with others.  It is well worth getting up early if you want to watch the sunrise\, which will be accompanied by the Concert Choir and dances by the Country Dancers. After that\, at 10:00 the main program begins at the base of the mountain and will include dances and music from a variety of student groups\, including the Country Dancers\, contests sponsored by various campus organizations and student clubs\, face painting\, and T-shirt dying.  Lunch will be served on the Berea forest ground and is available for purchase by the public\, but is free for Berea College students and faculty. Throughout the event\, Ale-8 drinks\, kettle corn\, and cotton candy will be served! What a great way to spend your day!!

SUMMARY:Country Dancers travel to Denmark!
DESCRIPTION:Five Country Dancers and three Country Dancers alumni travel to Denmark this summer as part of a large group of dancers from the Folk Circle Association of Berea\, Kentucky\, which also includes members of Berea Festival Dancers\, O Contraire contra dance group\, the Lexington Vintage Dancers\, Rapa Bora (rapper and morris dance team)\, and Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble. Our purpose is to continue the Danish-American Exchange that has been active between Berea and the folk dance community in Denmark since the 1920s\, but especially since the 1970s. We will be hosted by families in the Vendsyssel region of northern Jutland for a week\, then participate in the Landsstœvne national sports and cultural event that happens every 4th year in Denmark. Sponsored by DGI\, the Danish Sports Association\, 35-40\,000 participants are expected\, with 80-100\,000 spectators. Celebration of the 4th of July at Rebild National Park\, including Berea College President Lyle Roelofs as special guest will be followed by several days of touring other places in Denmark\, visiting dance groups and friends\, and ending up in Copenhagen.
